    Hi Coreenna
I am delighted to view the website and read through the blog. Good site to enlighten once on skin problems face by different age group.

I am 50+ and have menopause for more than 3 years. My freckle face have now turned into sightly pigmentation on my two cheeks below the eye areas. It is light brown and tried many types of products but never seems to work over the last 3 months.

I like your recommendation between Deep Whitening Cream and Whitening & Age-Defying Treatment. Which is good for me to start my facial regime to restore a cleaer, tone up and radiant face. Understand, I must at least use for one month to see result. Besides, using it physically on the face what other Nutrition products I can use to improve total wellnes on a 50+ woman. I started using Omega 3, 6, 9 softgels for a month. I see better wellness on my overall.

    Await your reply
    Ms Elyn

    Hi Ms Elyn,

Thanks for your kind words! =) I hope you’ll find my blog useful.

I’ve a personal theory as to why some women after menopause tend to experience pigmentation. However this is just a theory(not proven yet but based on personal observations) so you may like to observe for yourself as you implement your personal beauty regime. After menopause, the skin tends to become drier and thinner due to hormonal changes. I’ve noticed that people with dry, thin skin, regardless of age group, tend to be more prone to pigmentation. This could be because such skin is more sensitive to pro-inflammatory factors such as endothelin-1. With thinner, drier skin, in order for your skin to protect itself, it will automatically trigger its protective mechanism. Remember, although we don’t like melanin(the dark pigment produced by the melanocyte cells) on our skin, the original function of melanin is to protect our skin from damage due to UV exposure. So as a result, after menopause, when the skin becomes thinner and drier, melanin will start showing up. Ok, I may be oversimplifying things as the actual pathway for melanin formation is a very complex one but generally, I believe there’s a co-relation between thin, dry skin and pigmentation.

Thus, if hormonal changes is the main cause of post-menopausal changes in one’s skin condition, nutrition combined with proper skin are important the keys to addressing your pigmentation.

Besides keeping a healthy diet packed with fresh fruits and veggies which are full of natural antioxidants, I would recommend supplements like vitamin c, vitamin b complex, biotin, CoQ10, MSM and amino acids. In addition, ensure that your supplement plan includes herbs/foods rich in phytoestrogens and isoflavones as these will help with with hormonal issues. A good overall herbal supplement for women would be Bai Foong Wan, which is a blend of chinese herbs like dong quai, bai shao, shu di, etc, which is very very useful for the health and vitality of women. Recommended brands would be Eu Yan Sang (if I remember correctly, I think they have a formula specially for post-menopausal women) and Hock Hua. Other useful herbs/foods are soy, red clover, fenugreek, fennel, and chinese yam. I’m glad you’ve started using Omega 3,6,9 softgels. If you can, add in specific ones like evening primrose oil because I find evening primrose oil on its own is very good for women’s well-being. I know it sounds like alot of supplements to take so here’s a recommended supplement plan you may like to consider:

A good multivitamin(that includes vitamin c, vit b complex, biotin, etc)
    CoQ10 – 30mg to 50mg x 2 times daily(take this with your omega oils for best absorption)
MSM – 2000mg x 3 times daily (some formulas include this with glucosamine, which is very good for joints as well)
Amino acids – You can try our GenoMax PLUS or check out what’s available at GNC)
Bai Foong Wan – 2 to 3 times per week(start with 2 times weekly first)

For your skincare regime, first of all, I would strongly advise you to avoid products that contain synthetic colors, fragrances as alcohol as they’re potential skin sensitizers. Use a gentle cleanser that does not contain harsh surfactants to avoid drying out your skin. For your face, Deep Whitening Treatment would be a good choice. As this product does not contain any hydroquinone, it can be used safely over the long term. It is moisturizing to your skin as well. During the day, be sure to use a sunblock that protects your skin against both UVA and UVB.

    Warmest,
    Coreenna

Hi i have wondered how much you would calculate to set your theme up on my weblog for me, because i really like the look of your web logs but i do not know how to create such a hot design.

  7. eli Says:

    Dear lovely coreenna,

I love your website and its so informative! I had been a beauty junkie for years. Over the time, i’ve peeled, burned and suffocated my precious skin with chemical peeling, micro-dermabraion, expensive doctor’s visits and products… i am so tired and broke from all these useless and harmful treatments. Now… i’d like to turn over a new leaf by embarking on a no nonsense skincare regime from a reputable skincare natural company like yours.
I was wondering which products you can suggest to me from your vitasence range. I’m 26 yrs old, fair skinned, oily skin type (with dryer cheek areas), with occassional spots, have some minor broken red caplapories and pimple marks (i used to have some zits outbreak when younger) had a recent outbreak of contact dermatitis as i went and bought a jar of DMAE and ALPHA LIPOIC Acid moisturiser from the chemist and it BURNED my skin badly. Went to the dermalogist and was given some oral steriods and desowen (steriod skin cream) to calm down the skin. I want to put a stop to all these and i hope you can suggest what i can use to have such fair, clear and calm skin like yours!
I’d like to make my skin less sensitive, fairer, more even and the minor marks, freckles ligthened.
I hope to hear from u soon

  8. coreenna Says:

    Dear Elison,

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, I can understand the frustration you went thru and I sincerely hope vitasence will be able to help you.

1st of all, from your description, it seems like your skin is really very sensitive coz usually, DMAE and Alpha Lipoic Acid products should not cause the skin to burn badly. At most, they may cause some tingling sensation which should subside after awhile. Perhaps it may be an aftermath of all the chemical peels and micro-dermabrasion coz it sounds like you have done quite a lot of such treatments.

Therefore, the 1st thing I would suggest is to focus on restoring your skin’s health and integrity. If you’re still using steroid cream, please stop immediately if you can coz steroid creams are known to thin down the skin with prolonged usage, which will cause the skin to become even more sensitive in the long-term.

Thus, the products I would recommend for you would be:

    1. Cleansing Mousse
This is a very mild, sulfate-free cleanser which is non-drying. I feel it’s important for you to use a gentle cleanser that will preserve your skin’s pH while at the same time provide your skin with natural hydration. For more information, do check out this link:
    https://www.vitasence.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=1569

    2. Revitalising Tonic
This is not a must but if you’re someone who like to use a facial toner, you can consider Revitalising Tonic coz it’s 100% alcohol-free and doesn’t have all those solubilizers, fragrance, synthetic colors, etc, so often found in many facial toners. In fact, you’ll find it very refreshing, very soothing and calming.

    3. Soothing Moisturiser
Ok, I feel this is a must for your skin. Based on feedback gathered from our customers, this moisturiser is very very soothing and moisturising without being at all oily. I think your skin is going to love this. It has mild lightening properties too.

    4. Protective Hydrator
This is a sunblock-cum-day moisturiser which helps to protect your skin from darkening and aging. It’s for day-use only. You can apply it after the Soothing Moisturiser.
    https://www.vitasence.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=1568

I wanted to suggest Pore Clarifying Essence too as this product will help to balance and clarify your skin but on 2nd thoughts, I think your skin may not be ready for it yet as it has a very low concentration of salicylic acid. Normally, at this amount, it should feel fine on the skin but as your skin is extremely sensitive at this point, I feel it’s better to wait for your skin to recover first.

Hi, thanks for your compliments. the design is done by my IT staff. we’re not in web design biz but if you’re really keen, i can check with them.

  10. eli Says:

    Dear Coreenna,

Thanks soooo much for your inputs. I will take your advice and try the above mentioned products. I will order them on the 15th Nov. Btw, my skin has calmed down significantly and i have been using the skin care receipes from your book, natures spa. I tried the yoghurt cleanser ( i add oatmeal and ground almond meal with cucumber), rosewater toner with cider vinegar, bittermelon mask… I also hydrate my skin with vitamin e oil as my skin was pretty dry.

I’ve stopped the steriod topical cream for at least 4 days already.

Also, do you have a show room where i can go and get the products?

    Thanks and God Bless!

  11. coreenna Says:

    Dear Elison,

I’m so happy to know that the recipes in my book are helpful to your skin. Yeah, natural stuff rocks! So good to know that you’ve stopped using the steroid cream. I never like it coz it’s something that’s really bad for the skin in the long run!

Well, we don’t have a show room but we do have a distribution office at Bt Batok area for export and deliveries and you’re most welcome to come by anytime during office hrs(9am-6pm, Mon-Fri). Exact address is: 2 Bukit Batok St 24, #08-17 Skytech. Alternatively, you can shop online at our website and have the products delivered to you hassle-free.

Hi, I hope you could enlighten me on the ‘problem’ i have.. My face tans very easily. In fact, it is the darkest part of my entire body! It will turn a shade darker or two fairly quickly after i have stepped out of the house. Someone told me its because my face is oily. However, i sometimes noticed that this happened shortly after cleasing and moiturizing. I use sunblock with SPF30 daily. What could be the cause?

  16. coreenna Says:

    Hi Karen,

Oily skin has nothing to do with skin darkening. In fact, the reverse holds true. People with dry skin are more prone to pigmentation. This is because dry skin is more ‘deficient’ in the acid mantle that forms a protective layer on the skin. This acid mantle is composed of various lipids and amino acids. When this acid mantle is deficient, the skin is more susceptible to pro-inflammatory factors triggered off by sunlight and the environment. These pro-inflammatory factors are involved in one of the metabolic pathways for skin darkening as they have been shown to have a stimulating effect on the melanocyte cells (the cells located in the basal layer of our skin that produces the dark pigment, melanin).

The reason why your skin turns dark fairly quickly could be due to other factors such as active melanocyte cells that are triggered by the enzyme tyrosinase. Some people are naturally born with more active melanocyte cells than others.

SPF only indicates the length of time your skin can be protected from burning. Burning and erythema are caused by UVB rays. Darkening and wrinkles are caused by UVA. In order to make sure that your sunscreen also protects your skin from darkening, check that it provides protection from UVA too. This is usually indicated by the PA factor. You should also check the sunscreen ingredients to make that they contain one or more of the following: avobenzone, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Reason being: these are the sunscreen agents which have been clinically proven to protect your skin from BOTH UVA and UVB. Sunscreen agents like octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC) and PABA only gives UVB protection. In other words, your skin will still darken and develop wrinkles if your sunscreen only contain the above 2.

    Hope the above helps.

    Love,
    Coreenna

    Hi,
Thank your very much for the speedy advice. I would try out your protective hydrator once i’m done with my existing sunblock. I’m using your cleansing mousse and pore clarifying essence. Am pleased with the results. I will try your cell renewal serum next.
